Professional Highlights:

Casey Eriksen holds a Ph.D. in Spanish from the University of Virginia (E. Michael Gerli, director; Alison P. Weber, Ricardo Padrón, and Bonnie Gordon, readers). Eriksen has previously taught, lived, and researched throughout Spain, Germany, France, Israel, and Sweden. He has presented scholarly work at regional and international conferences (Porto, Valencia, and elsewhere), and has published articles and chapters with Prosopopeya: revista de crítica contemporánea, the University of Virginia Press, the Universitat de València Press, Pennsylvania State University Press, and elsewhere. His work appears in The Eighteenth Centuries: Global Networks of Enlightenment (University of Virginia Press, edited by David T. Gies and Cynthia Wall). Eriksen has also collaborated with Enrique Pelaéz Malagón (Universitat de València) in a comparative examination of visual cultures and religious iconography.

At present, Eriksen has written a forthcoming monograph on visual/material cultures and artistic networks in the Mediterranean world through Routledge, an imprint of Taylor and Francis (Oxford). He has received research grants from the Buckner W. Clay Endowment for the Humanities, the Tibor Wlassics Dante Research Fellowship, the University of Virginia, Shenandoah University, and the Mellon Foundation.

At Shenandoah University and the University of Virginia, Eriksen has designed and taught a range of courses, including advanced grammar, literature courses (survey and topic-specific), advanced-level translation, immersion/study abroad programs, Spanish for professional uses, and first-year seminars. Eriksen has encouraged and mentored his students to take part in research and project-based learning, and has assisted students in the publication and revision of translated texts. He has incorporated community-based research into his courses. He has led study abroad programs (UVA-in-Valencia) and traveled with students throughout Spain. Eriksen has also instructed eight-week immersion language programs at the UVA Summer Language Institute in Charlottesville (Grammar Review and Conversation). More recently, Eriksen has developed immersion classes and led students to Spain and France through Shenandoah University’s Global Experiential Learning (GEL) Program. In March 2019, he traveled with students on a short-term intercultural learning trip to Greece as part of SU’s Global Citizenship Project (GCP). Eriksen has also given seminars in teaching pedagogy at the Foro de Profesores de E/LE in Valencia, in which he discussed ways in which to engage students through an examination of burlesque and satirical texts. Eriksen is a member of the Renaissance Society of America, ALDEEU, Sigma Delta Pi, and the MLA.

Casey is originally from Princeton, NJ, and lives in Barboursville, Virginia, at Point-of-Beginning, his home at Sandy Branch Farm in Albemarle County. In his free time, Casey is an avid gardener and is President of the Sandy Branch Farm Garden Club. He enjoys spending time outdoors with his Jack Russell terrier, Mikey, and Chinese-crested dog, Tommy.
